Day 4

We arrived in Granada after a very easy flight.  The cab ride was uneventful until we turned up the hill into the Albaicin area where we stayed.  It's hard to believe that cars are even allowed there.  We were early for check in so we dropped off our luggage and went for a stroll.  Here was our first view of the Alhambrah.

This is what it looked like near to the bottom of the hill.  It's very north African looking with lots of turkish shops and restaurants.

Breakfast included bonboms. The sugar packets were a mistake as the white settlement on the bottom is condensed milk.
I had tomato bread with serrano ham.  Rebecca had tomato bread with tuna.  I forgot to take a picture of that.

There was a mass going on in the cathedral so we stood in the back and listened.  Insert Jack Handey quote here.
Pretty building.

Here is 10 percent of the climb home!  It was fun to watch people on bicycles going down these. Notice the streets.  They're all like this.  Part foot massage, part torture.

Here is the view from our room.
We had booked a walking tour at 6:00.  We went down the hill early to have a refreshment.  Granada is still a city that gives you a tapa with each drink you order.  We both had a verdejo and they brought us some chicken paella.
We also ordered this.  Tuna is the thing.
Here are some pictures from our tour of the Albaicin which was the moorish quarter below the Alhambrah.

The only industry left there is a ceramics factory.  Several building were adorned with them.

After the tour we walked for a while looking for something to eat.  We sat at one place we thought would be it but changed our mind.  We ended up finding a beautiful place near where we were staying and they were able to seat us in the courtyard.  Unfortunately I forgot to take pictures of the place.
Croquets.  One with vegetables and one with onions
Smoked cod with roasted vegetables and spinach.

And this was a delicious squid ink rice with seafood.  Remember this picture!

And one last shot of the alhambra as we walked home.  It was a wonderful day.  We had walked a million miles and seen some stunning sights.  We put a video on facebook of a nunnery we went into where you put money on a lazy susan sort of thing and they turn it around and replace the money with bread.  We stumbled upon it when we walked through a random door and Rebecca recognized it from a video we saw.  Very cool.

What we didn't know was that our lives were about to change.....
